Z Energizing Green Smoothie

About this recipe

Flax is one of the world’s oldest cultivated crops, grown for thousands of years for its seeds and fibers. This modern smoothie brings ground flaxseed together with strawberries, banana, spinach, Greek yogurt, and almond milk for a creamy blend with naturally sweet fruit and a gently nutty finish.

WHY YOU’LL LOVE IT

Ripe banana and strawberries bring natural sweetness without added sugar. Greek yogurt and ground flaxseed give the smoothie a thick, creamy texture. Six simple ingredients blend into one generous glass in about five minutes.

Ingredients

Makes 1 serving (1 large glass). Nutrition information is for the entire smoothie.

  • 1 cup fresh strawberries, hulled (150 g)
  • 1 medium ripe banana, peeled (120 g edible portion)
  • ½ cup fresh spinach (15 g)
  • ½ cup plain whole-milk Greek yogurt, unsweetened (120 g)
  • ½ cup unsweetened almond milk (120 ml)
  • 2 tbsp ground flaxseed (14 g)
  • 1–2 tbsp cold water (15–30 ml), only if needed to thin

Preparation

  1. Wash the strawberries and spinach. Remove the strawberry tops, peel the banana, and cut the fruit into pieces.
  2. Pour the almond milk into the blender. Add the Greek yogurt, spinach, strawberries, banana, and ground flaxseed.
  3. Secure the lid and blend on high for 45–60 seconds, or until smooth and creamy. Stop and scrape down the sides if needed, then blend again.
  4. If the smoothie is too thick, add cold water, 1 tablespoon at a time, and blend briefly until it reaches your preferred consistency.
  5. Pour the entire smoothie into one large glass and serve immediately.

Tips

  • Use a ripe banana for natural sweetness and a creamier texture.
  • For a colder, thicker smoothie, freeze the measured banana pieces beforehand.
  • Use ground flaxseed rather than whole seeds for a smoother blend.
  • The strawberries and spinach may produce a muted green or green-brown color; the exact shade varies with the fruit and leaves.
  • Enjoy promptly, as ground flaxseed thickens the smoothie as it stands.
