Z Hot Honey

About this recipe

Hot honey combines honey and chile for a sweet sauce with lingering heat. This quick infusion adds apple cider vinegar to balance the sweetness.

WHY YOU’LL LOVE IT

Sweet honey and chile bring both sweetness and a gentle kick. A touch of cider vinegar balances the flavor. Drizzle it over pizza, fried chicken, roasted vegetables, or cornbread.

Ingredients

  • ¼ cup honey (about 3 oz / 85 g)
  • 1½ tsp crushed red pepper flakes (about 0.1 oz / 2.7 g)
  • ¾ tsp apple cider vinegar (¼ fl oz / 3.75 ml)

Preparation

  1. Add the honey and red pepper flakes to a small saucepan.
  2. Warm over low heat until tiny bubbles appear at the edge; do not let the honey boil.
  3. Remove from the heat and let the chile infuse for 15 minutes.
  4. Stir in the apple cider vinegar. Strain into a clean jar for a smooth sauce, or leave in the flakes for more heat.

Tips

For milder hot honey, strain out the flakes after infusing.
For more heat, leave the flakes in the sauce.
Use low heat; boiling can make the honey overly thick.
