Z Cardamom Greek Yogurt Lassi

About this recipe

Lassi is a traditional yogurt-based drink closely associated with Punjab, a region spanning northern India and eastern Pakistan, where sweet and savory versions are enjoyed. This adaptation uses Greek yogurt for a thicker texture and more protein, with fragrant cardamom and a modest touch of honey.

WHY YOU’LL LOVE IT

Fragrant cardamom and a touch of honey balance the yogurt’s refreshing tang. Greek yogurt gives each glass a creamy texture and approximately 18 g of protein. Four simple ingredients blend into a refreshing drink in just five minutes.

Ingredients

Makes 1 serving (1 glass, approximately 300 ml). Nutrition information is for the entire drink.

  • Plain whole-milk Greek yogurt, unsweetened (200 g / about ¾ cup plus 1 tbsp)
  • Cold water (100 ml), plus 1–2 tbsp more only if needed to thin
  • 1 tsp honey (7 g)
  • ⅛ tsp ground green cardamom (about 0.25 g)

Preparation

  1. Add the cold water, Greek yogurt, honey, and ground cardamom to a blender.
  2. Secure the lid and blend for 20–30 seconds, until smooth, pourable, and lightly frothy. Avoid prolonged blending.
  3. If the lassi is too thick, add cold water, 1 tablespoon at a time, and blend briefly to combine.
  4. Pour the entire lassi into one glass and serve immediately.

Tips

  • Use chilled yogurt and cold water for a refreshing drink without ice diluting it as it melts.
  • Choose plain, unsweetened Greek yogurt so the measured honey controls the sweetness.
  • Use ground green cardamom, not smoky black cardamom. Its flavor is strong, so measure carefully.
  • If grinding cardamom yourself, use only the seeds inside the pods and grind them finely; discard the husks.
  • A lassi should be easy to drink. Adjust its thickness with water rather than adding more yogurt.
